Description
There are nodular vegetations on the contact surfaces of both the mitral and aortic valves. The
valves otherwise appear normal.
History
This man at the age of 58 was admitted to hospital with a history of being generally
unwell. After admission he developed a right hemiplegia and showed evidence of multiple
peripheral emboli in the short time before his death. Blood cultures were negative. At autopsy the
valve vegetations were demonstrated. In addition this man showed a carcinoma of the left upper
lobe of the lung and there was cerebral, renal, splenic and myocardial infarction.
